Ashpaw padded slowly across the damp ground, his large gray-brown paws making no noise. A thick fog hung all around him, clinging to his fur in the shape of little water droplets and blurring his eyesight. The gray veil masked all sounds, and Ashpaw could hear nothing moving around him.
The apprentice's whiskers twitched and he raised one paw to wipe the water off them. So far, they had only been able to catch a vole, and there was as of yet no sign of other prey. They needed to find something else before they returned to camp...
Turning around and trying to pierce the darkness with his glowing amber eyes, Ashpaw called, "Goldenpaw?"

Goldenpaw flicked her ear irritably as the water droplets clung to them. It was so wet out here... why had they asked their mentors to come here rather than some drier area? It was too foggy for prey--to scent it or able to run. If they tried a chase they might even fall off the edge of the cliff...
Pushing those unsettling thoughts away, the golden-brown apprentice carefully set down her paws, making sure she wasn't accidentally walking over the edge of the cliff.
Her ears swiveled forward as she heard the faint call of her brother. "Goldenpaw?"
"I'm here," she called out, aware that her voice echoed eerily around her due to the clinging mist. With a shiver she bounded forward. If Ashpaw was ahead of her, it meant the cliff edge wasn't anywhere near here.

Ears pricking up, Ashpaw's sharp hearing picked up the sound of his sister's voice, and he made out her shape moving towards him in the fog. "There you are. Good," he said, a bit relieved -- thought he would never admit it -- to not be alone out here. He scented the wind once again, but all he could smell was wet earth and cold fog.
"Goldenpaw," he said again, "can you scent anything? Your nose is better than mine. I don't hear anything... and I don't want to go back to camp with just this stupid little vole. They'll think we're incompetent," he complained, slightly irritated.

Goldenpaw nodded to her brother as he acknowledged her presence. As he went on, asking about prey, her nose twitched--but the fog was too thick, blocking out any other scents she was trying to identify.
A reluctant shake of her head. She didn't want to admit it, but she could smell nothing. "I can't get anything," she said out loud. "The mist and the wet earth are too strong." Her ears drooped a little bit before she decided to try to cheer up. She rose to her paws, shaking the water off of her pelt.
"We could try hunting somewhere else," she suggested doubtfully. Their mentors had told them to hunt at the Foggy Cliff and then go back, but there was nothing here!

Ashpaw stood for a moment, thinking. A muted bird call sounded through the fog, and he had to keep from shivering. It was getting colder, especially here...
"I suppose we need to leave," he growled, disliking the results of this hunt. "How about we take the long route home? Maybe we'll find something else. They can't chew us out for that, we're still coming back. Besides, this is what's best for the Clan." He turned his amber eyes on her, waiting for a response.

Goldenpaw felt the chill of the day piercing through her long fur as well. Why was it getting colder as the sun rose, as time passed? That just didn't make sense.
She had been so absorbed in the silence of the mist she jumped when her brother spoke. "I suppose," she answered slowly, her tailtip twitching slowly. She looked into her brother's eyes as he continued. "Sounds like a great idea. Should we check the borders, too?" The she-cat's eyes gleamed at the thought of being rewarded, though she didn't like the attention that much.

Seeing his sister's eyes gleaming made Ashpaw feel a bit better, and he raised his head higher, excited at the prospect of being rewarded for their hunt this morning.
"Let's go around to the border," he suggested, "and then curve around back to the camp. There's bound to be something along the way." With that he began walking forward again, a bit more spring in his step. As soon as they got out of this fog, he should be able to hear better -- and Goldenpaw should be able to scent better -- and maybe it would be a little less cold, he thought as the breeze brushed his gray fur again.
((What board is the border?))

Wildstar watched the apprentices, gold eyes lightly flickering in amusement. Slightly sweeping her tongue over her lips, she walked towards them. "Goldenpaw, Ashpaw," The BoneClan leader meowed to the duo. For a heartbeat, Wildstar breathed in the air, then focused on the apprentices again. "Where are the two of you off to, then?"

Ashpaw's ears perked up and he quickly wheeled around as he heard a voice. For a moment his claws unsheathed and dug into the ground, but as he realized who it was, the fur on his shoulders lay flat again and he resheathed his claws. Darn this fog... he couldn't even tell who his own leader was out here!
"Oh, Wildstar," he said, eyes flicking to the side as he looked towards Goldenpaw. "Our mentors gave us permission to come out and hunt, but we've only caught a vole... we were just on our way back to camp to hunt along the way."

Goldenpaw blinked in surprise as another voice came faintly to her. She thought it was their leader, but she couldn't tell for sure--her brother's voice confirmed it, though.
Nervously, the golden-brown apprentice moved closer to her brother, pressing her flank against his. Why was she so scared talking to her leader? It was just her nature, and sometimes she wished she wasn't so nervous.
With a nod, Goldenpaw supported Ashpaw, without speaking.

((Well... seeing as how Wildstar is back in the other thread...))
Ashpaw looked up at the sky, wondering what time it was now -- but of course, the fog was too thick for him to really see the sun. He growled silently and turned away from the cliffside. "Come on," the apprentice said to his sister. "This fog isn't going to burn off anytime soon. We'll have to go somewhere else." With no particular place in mind, he headed away from the area, eager to get back to land where his dark paws wouldn't squish in damp ground wherever he stepped.

Goldenpaw's neck was twisted as she gazed around at her brother. Again, she didn't speak, only blinking in agreement. She flicked her paws irritably as the moist ground made her paws sink slightly with each pawstep, and, trying to keep up, she raced off after her brother.
