Flightstar was pacing in her den, antsy. The news her medicine cat had told her - which she already knew was true, but she had just gone to be assured - was not good. Not. Good. At. All. After Shatteredclaw's and her meeting a while ago, she was ready to just treat the tom as any other of her warriors. That weren't Russetleaf, of course.
And besides. She couldn't have kits. She hadn't even gone to her first Gathering as leader yet, as Nightstar had died days after one, the same night as her liaison with the ginger tom who fathered her kits.
She had called for Russetleaf, her brother. He would help. He would assure her and make plans. But d**n. Her first moon as leader, and she had really screwed things up. You could already tell she was plumper. This couldn't be a small litter.
This was bad. Determinedly bad.

Shatteredclaw bit his lip. He knew what he'd done - another mistake, to add on to the many mistakes he'd made in his miserable life. If he was right and he had gotten Flightstar pregnant - pregnant - he was in trouble. Leaders weren't supposed to have kits, and he, Shatteredclaw, was the father.
Great StarClan. Hadn't his last "encounter" with a she-cat been enough?
He knew what he had to do. He had to see Flightstar and figure things out. When were the kits due, anyway?
He nervously padded towards her den, his ginger tail twitching with anxiety and his heart pounding furiously. He never sought out conversation. What was he doing? For a moment, he waited outside her den in silence, trying to think of what he would say, but failing to think of anything at all.
You coward, Shatteredclaw, he scoffed at himself. She's just another she-cat...
"Flightstar? May I speak with you?"

Flightstar could have attacked Shatteredclaw at that moment, but she restrained herself and turned around slowly. "Yes?" She meowed, rather annoyed. She had not asked for him yet. If he did not yet suspect, he would know now, judging from her bloated flanks. Her heart also pounded as she waited for the ginger tom - not her brother, the one she trusted above all - to pad through the curtain of moss.
Oh, StarClan, she thought miserably. Flightstar could go from angry to depressed in seconds flat, without anyone knowing (but Russetleaf) on the outside.

"About - about the kits, Flightstar..." Shatteredclaw meowed awkwardly, taking a tentative step into Flightstar's den. Without being able to help himself, his gaze shifted to his leader's belly. It had definitely increased in size since he last saw it; it couldn't be long before the other clan cats noticed. What would happen when they did?
He took a deep breath and tried again. "What will happen to the kits when they're born?" He avoided looking into Flightstar's eyes, and observed her belly again - as if this somehow made the situation less awkward.

--enter teh Russetleaf kitty--
Russetleaf heard Flightstar's agitated meow as he padded into the camp. Deciding to see what was going on, he walked over to see what was going on.
Poking his head through the curtain of moss, he saw the warrior Shatteredclaw standing next to his leader, his sister.
Immediately the ginger warrior stiffened. What was his Clanmate doing in Flightstar's den? As far as he knew he had no business with his sister. And Flightstar usually told him a lot.
Slowly blinking, Russetleaf asked, "What's going on here?"
((Now I"m done ^^))

Ick. -misses liquid time- Argh. This was not good. It was frustrating. Annoying. This whole deal was.
Watching her brother come in, she sat down. "Okay," she meowed, eyes narrowing. "I'm going to handle this delicately. Russetleaf," Flightstar began, "Shatteredclaw has fathered my kits. They're due in a moon, maybe less." She didn't soften the blow; being blunt was what Flightstar did best.
"Shatteredclaw, I will not raise the kits. They can be nursed for the moon or two they need to be nursed by another queen. I will not assume the position of mother. If you want to play father, you talk that out with the queen and make up a story." Eyes hard, she turned to her brother.
"I think Fernleaf should be here, don't you?"

Russetleaf bit back a yowl of shock. His sister, the Clan leader, was having kits? How could she do this? She was more responsible than that! But then, as she spoke to the father of her kits, Shatteredclaw, he realized that she must not have meant to.
Drawing up closer to his sister, Russetleaf murmured, "I'm sure all will be fine. You can give the kits to a queen, for her to take care of. There shouldn't be anything to worry about..."
He paused before answering her last question. "Yes, it'd probably be wise to get her in here," he muttered. "Shall I go get her?"
((I'm assuming it's a her... xD))

"Fine," growled Shatteredclaw, twitching his whiskers. Trust Flightstar to force all responsibility upon him. You didn't just ditch your offspring, even if you were leader - couldn't Flightstar see that?
Great StarClan. What was he going to say to the poor queen who would have to raise the kits? Racking his brain for a plausible story, he paced back and forth angrily. He felt as though he was being treated as if this was somehow his fault, though Flightstar carried as much blame as he did.
He couldn't say the mother was probably a rogue and had left the kits alone - this had already happened once in GustClan; what were the chances of it happening again? But Flightstar refused to admit the truth to the Clan, for obvious reasons.

Sorry, guys. RL ate me with my wisdom teeth and subsequent examinations in which I did miserably. Flightstar felt herself relaxing. Good, this was good. It was all going to be fine. Perfect. Great. Everything would work like clockwork.
Yeah, clockwork.
Nodding to both ginger toms, she waited for her medicine cat to join them. ENTER: Fernleaf
