Duskflight slowly came to a stop, white paws padding softly across the cold ground. He had mostly let his paws and his nose guide him through NightClan territory, not thinking too much about where the patrol was going, and found himself at the Burnt Oak. A faint scent of prey lingered in the air, and the deputy wondered if any mice or shrews were taking shelter in the roots of the old tree. It may be burnt and missing a lot of bark and branches, but it would still make a fairly good hideaway from the cold air.
Pricking his ears to try to catch any sound of little claws scrabbling, Duskflight waited for the rest of the patrol to catch up. Once they were there, they could form a plan for driving the prey out.

Greengaze was walking impatiently behind Duskflight. She hated not being able to run, but she knew she needed to stay slow and quiet if she didn't want the prey to flee. She abruptly came to a halt, and raised her nose i the air. She couldn't smell much. Just dry leaves, and cold air. Every now and then she cought a hint of a mouse, or a bird, but as soon as she payed focused attention, the scent dropped to nothing. Sighing, Greengaze looked up to her deputy for further instructions.

Duskflight sensed Greengaze's approach and turned to look at her silently. After throwing a glance over his shoulder, searching for Silverpaw, he slowly took a few steps forward, whiskers twitching as he scented the air. The prey-scent was faint, and partially disguised by the smell of plants and the cold air. But he followed what little of it there was to a root that stuck out of the ground with a small cavern under it. The scent seemed to be stronger there, meaning one thing: prey.
Silverpaw hadn't arrived yet, and Duskflight wondered if she had gotten lost because she'd fallen behind, or if she was just being careful to not scare prey. In any case, they didn't have all the time in the world, so the deputy turned his purple eyes on Greengaze, motioning with his tail that if she'd wait at the opening of the cavern, he'd try to scare the prey out towards her.

Silverpaw walked quickly and silently. She spotted her mentor and briskly walked towards him. Her silver eyes shined happily at the fact that she was on her first patrol. Then the fresh smell of prey filled her nose. Delight filled her eyes as the sweet smells came to her nose. Silverpaw stood next to Greengaze, wondering what she was suppose to do first. Then, she stood quietly, waiting for her mentor, the deputy, to give out further instructions.
